Little Debbie

This could be about Debbie, whom I paddled for years until she moved to Miami. She was little, had a bubble butt and loved to be paddled.

But this about Little Debbie Oatmeal Creme Pies.

In the early 80's I was laser-focused on learning everything I could about IBM's online operating system. [It was called CICS]. It was very much misunderstood. I attended five IBM schools, which, for the most part, were worthless.

I would stay after normal working hours, essentially having the computer to myself. I tried all sorts of contortions to see what worked and did not.

When I got hungry, I ate a coupla of Little Debbie's. I kept boxes of them in my desk. The sugar high kept me going.

After about 2,000 hours of experiments and another 3,000 programming, I knew the system inside and out and wrote manuals I could use to teach other programmers.

Over the course of a half dozen years teaching those courses all over the country, Little Debbie netted me seven figures.

The other Little Debbie.

  1. WOW! I would haved loved to meet little Debbie back in the day! She sounds like a lot of fun. I do love the first photo showing the red spots on each cheek. You have mentioned her several times over the years and I think I have seen other photos of her on your site.
I had no idea you are such a computer wiz. That system is still used today! Your description of your persistence is amazing! It reminds me of a book I read back in the 80's called Think and Grow Rich. Its all about identifying a goal and going for it! Congrats and thanks for posting this!

    1. You have seen her before. Lots of pictures of her accumulated during the ten or so years of padding her cute bottom. Many more of her than of Bacall.

Yep, CICS is still around. It had its own operating system within the OS of the computer. I found it fascinating. Once it was doing highly erratic things. After a day or so of a system being down, IBM will bring in heavyweights to troubleshoot. After three days, it's all hands on. deck. - technical and executive. I had the chance to chat with some of the developers in the dark of night while reviewing the source code on microfiche. Boring to most, but fascinating to me. Turned out one of the system programmers had a secret program running. That chapped me as he got the job I wanted and kept it after his major screwup.
