Fashion of the 70's

It's always been amazing to me how quickly fashion moves from the runways to local stores. A case in point, short skirts led to micro bikinis and lingerie. If you are close to my age, this will be a walk down memory lane.

  1. Now that's a trip down memory lane! All absolutely gorgeous! Last image - best guess at the year - 1965

    1. Bacall had boots like that in 1970. Whatever that is worth.

    1. I'll be damned, there is a TV. I was concentrating on her flimsy blouse. The doll, looks like a lumberjack with mouse ears sitting next to a dildo. Bacall had boots like that in 1970.

  3. CRT televisions with mechanical channel selectors were still around in the 70s here, but the telephone is of a style that was replaced in the mid 60s. The young lady's 'hot pants' (they had that name here) also suggest mid 60s. In truth, without knowing if the picture was staged using strictly contemporary objects it is impossible to be certain. Very happy to have a transatlantic accord with Al Gore at 1965!
Now the first image shows mini skirts with stocking tops and suspenders on display, garments that were rapidly replaced with the infamous tights, which were real passion killers. The advent of hold up stockings restored proper order, permitting the easy removal of of panties for spanking and other mutually beneficial activities.

    1. Yes, Bacall wore hot pants. I looked for a picture of her in them, but came up dry. She also had a dress slit all the way up and a mesh swimsuit. Loved the song Trashy Woman.

As skirts got shorter, 1970/71 stocking tops were often on display. I drooled. Yes, we called tights pantyhose. Hated by all men.

    2. Over here the slit dress was based on the chong sang style of dress from China. Some were slitted to the waist, modesty being maintained by the infamous tights (pantyhose). Although bare legs have been common for some years, they were wholly unknown in the UK back then, stockings and tights being pretty much universal, possibly due to the British climate. The warmer summers and milder winters we now have, mean the stocking and tights industry has shrunk dramatically. There was a brief fashion for crocheted bikinis, which I had forgotten until you mentioned a mesh swimsuit.

  4. Were tights called panty hose over there?

    1. Yes, we called tights pantyhose. Hated by all men. I taught technical classes to the Sara Lee subsidiary that made pantyhose. Sales were so strong that they had to migrate to a much larger machine. As their existing machine could not complete processing in a 24-hour period. The first few days, they kept referencing 'Sun B.' I finally asked - it was the shade and size of the best seller.

  5. Indeed. I entered 7th grade, and a larger school, in 1967 when skirts were at an all time “high” and girls were not yet permitted to wear pants to school. Such distractions!

Within 3 years, the rules on pants had been changed and skirts were eschewed by many and those worn were generally a bit more modest. My brain supported the rule change, but other parts of my body were disappointed.

  6. Amazing how quickly skirt lengths changed. I think they were mid-calf and then they barely covered the cock pit.

Seventh-grade math class was really hard for me. The girl sitting one desk up and in the next aisle wore bullet bras and fuzzy sweaters.

  7. The 70's were the best decade ever for many things, including music.

    1. I so agree with you. I started rejecting new music in the 80's.
I like a lot of music that was developed before I was born.

  8. Love the trip down memory lane! I graduated High School in 1967 , and I find my interest in music has stayed pretty much between the mid 60's and with a few exceptions and stopped with the disco trend. Skirt lengths were just above the knee at time, but raised to mid calf by 1968. My teenaged brain just loved it!

    1. We lose a lot as we travel the road of life, but not memories. I agree with you on music, pushing disco aside, I made it until the 80's until I stopped taking on new music. Well, that's not quite right, I started enjoying music from the 40's. Especially Jazz.

I think you meant mid-thigh, not mid-calf. That soft, smooth, meaty part of her that I might grab as soon as she was in the car.
