We had it all on board in our "town." Whatever we needed was brought to us by supply ships. Food, fuel oil, munitions, etc. The supply ships would pull alongside, and lines would be passed over. Once I saw what they called an emergency breakaway. We were taking on fuel oil, which is pumped over in large hoses. The emergency was called, and we altered course, breaking the lines supporting the hoses. Oil was spewing everywhere. Why this drill was needed was beyond me.

DeleteThere must have been some reason. I presume the ship had to be prepared for any situation to occur.
