I have a red cap. I don’t wear it often. I fear it might be confused with a MAGA hat. [I also have a Make America Grateful t-shirt that I seldom wear, as it might be confused with MAGA merch]
The cap was a give-me at a sailing regatta in Florida a couple of centuries ago. It reads Leukemia Cup Regatta ’99. [It was sponsored by Mount Gay and Barbados Rum. Open bar!!!]
A century before that, there were two sailing clubs on a lake close to Birmingham. The other club had been hosting the Stan Wroble Memorial regatta for several years. Stan had contracted an acute form of Leukemia and passed away. I casually mentioned that our club would be pleased to host it, and so increase the number of boats and contributions.
They accepted. Then something in the universe tilted, and Leukemia Cup Regattas were being held at clubs across the US. They are still going.
My involvement was limited to one sentence. You guys wanna hold it at our club next year?
Closing the circle, a century later, I developed Leukemia. The best kind - it does kill you right away.

Other Misheard Lyrics: “On a dark desert highway, cool whip in my hair”
