Thought For Today

The urge to use the power of the government to silence or destroy those we disagree with is why the Framers wrote the Constitution to limit federal powers, and to create checks and balances between the three branches. It’s why the more cynical (or realistic, depending on your viewpoint) anti-Federalists insisted on the addition of the Bill of Rights.

  1. We are getting lost in the meaning our forefathers had in mind when writing the constitution. Then there are the courts adding their twist to what was meant. I'm not sure where the idea came up that we are a democracy, but that is wrong. What our forefathers set up was a Republic quite different from a democracy. Today many want Their rights but want to stomp on the rights of those that don't agree with them.

  2. Well said.

I have been president of two national organizations, both with constitutions and by-laws. In both organizations there were times when the members wanted to side-step the constitution. I was not popular for resisting ad-hoc proposals.
